Nancy Schmid, General Manager

As an experienced eGovernment services professional, Nancy is a strategic and passionate executive with a blend of both private and public-sector experience. She possesses over thirty years of success in leading, managing, executing and launching strategic, innovative, award winning digital products and services. Prior to becoming the NIC Maryland General Manager, Nancy served as the Director of Operations and Marketing for NIC’s Maryland division in support of Maryland’s statewide eGov services master contract. Prior to that, Nancy was Director of Project Management for NIC’s South Carolina office. In addition to her work with NIC, Nancy possesses over 20 years of additional government experience working in the municipal, county, and federal arenas.

Jakob Madsen, Director of Technology

For more than 20 years, Jakob has had a passion for technology. During his career he has owned a software company implementing Microsoft Dynamics solutions and developing customizations for ERP systems, and held C-level positions in several private companies serving their customers with technology. In 2016, Jakob joined NIC as Director of Technology in the Pennsylvania Portal, and in 2018 moved to NIC Maryland to serve as Director of Technology in Annapolis. Jakob is providing leadership and strategic direction for all technology related initiatives and translating strategic direction into deliverable projects for our team of developers, our customers and partners.

Shannon Pierce, Director of Operations

Shannon loves to find ways to make government business processes more efficient through well designed and cost effective solutions. Her 20 years of software management experience creating and maintaining solutions for federal, state, and corporate clients has resulted in the retirement of hundreds of thousands of ad hoc spreadsheets, rogue hard drives, and siloed systems. Shannon is responsible for oversight of our office’s day to day activities, ensuring that our work is expertly managed and providing maximum value for our partners.

Our Culture

NIC Maryland strongly believes in giving 100% at work and 110% back to family and the communities we serve.

The NIC Maryland team loves taking part in the Annapolis culture. Attending the Blue Angels show together during Commissioning Week is one of our favorite team building activities.

Our team of Customer Support Heroes multiplied on this year's bring your kid to work day.

Over 50 NIC staff participated in the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We raised almost $250k for the life-saving efforts of St. Jude!

Our annual Navy football game and tailgate party is a fun way to relax together after busy weeks serving our amazing government partners!

NIC Maryland organized a sleeping bag drive to benefit the Lighthouse Shelter in Annapolis.
